Rigging, sails and deck hardware form the safety and performance backbone of a sailing yacht. Worn lines, sticky blocks, slack in tensioning gear or UV damage in sailcloth gradually reduce both speed and security. At Sound Yachts in Yalıkavak Marina we first clarify how you use the boat—cruising, racing or charter—and inventory the current gear, then inspect critical points on site.

A typical process covers visual and functional checks; measurement and compatibility (diameter, load rating, attachment points); removal and replacement; then setup and sea trials. On standing rigging, wire age, terminals and mast step deserve special attention. On running rigging, chafe points, sheave bearings and clutches/jammers matter most. For sails we review stitch lines, panel loading and UV protection; repair, recut or new sails are recommended when form is lost.

When is service due? Rising mast vibration, lost tension, metallic noises, fuzzy rope, hard-turning blocks or a sail that will not hold shape should not be postponed. Pre- and post-season checks are the practical way to manage UV and salt load in Bodrum–Aegean conditions. Jeanneau and Contest sailboats need spares that match the builder’s rig logic; on Saxdor and Bali platforms, deck hardware access and load paths are planned accordingly.

Line choice is about construction as much as diameter: polyester, Dyneema blends or spectra cores behave differently in stretch and chafe. The wrong rope can overload blocks or slip in clutches, so replacements discuss load and sailing scenario—not only colour and size. On sails, UV strips, telltales and early tear starts can stay as small repairs if caught early.

Mast and boom fittings need checks for corrosion, cracks and deformation. Nearshore Aegean use loads salt onto metal quickly. Periodic rinsing, protective lubrication and correct off-season storage delay expensive re-rigs. After work we share tension notes and visual findings so next season has a baseline.

Rigging and sail work can be coordinated in the same window as deck hardware and, when needed, electrical runs for lighting or sensors—avoiding repeated disruption. Whether the goal is safer passages, easier short-handed sailing or performance, the survey produces a clear priority list.

We can also suggest a spare inventory for sails and rigging: spare line ends, critical shackles and basic block parts improve passage safety. On Bodrum–Aegean routes away from yards, those spares save time. A short spare list is left with the owner after service.

Rig tune is fine-adjusted to the yacht and sailing style; over-tension fatigues metal, under-tension costs performance and safety. Where possible, sea trials complete checks under load.
